Class Schedule for the Semester

Brief Summary

1. Economics, Information and the Internet:
For an assessment, we are presented three different "problems" which we work with our group to complete and turn in using what we learn in the lecture. There is also an exam at the end of the semester.

2. The Business of Sport:
It is what it says. We learn about different sports and how they have progressed in generating revenue. So far, the only thing I can take away from the class is America is much better at managing leagues and players. Here, most of the soccer clubs don't make money and the ones that do make so much more than the others. Sports gambling is legal here, which is a really interesting process.

3. The London Economy:
This is probably my easiest class. In the lecture we learn intermediate economics through examples centered around modern day London problems. Our grade is based on a powerpoint and one paper.

4. Art in Society:
In this class, I learn about the destination we will be traveling to for the day and then accompany the four professors who give us a tour through the museum or gallery pointing out the most popular things. This may be a tedious since we have to reflect after each visit, and I'm not really a reflect type of guy.

The Hunt for the Phone Booth

About four months ago when I decided to go to London for the semester, I picked the above picture to be the wallpaper on my iPhone. I decided that when I got to London I would go looking for the exact phone booth and I'd take a picture next to it. As you can see below, I found it.

Stonehenge with Pi Kapps

It's official, I've seen my first Wonder of the World. We took an hour and a half bus ride through the English countryside to see Stonehenge. It's believed to have been constructed between 2000 and 3000 B.C.

Hillestad, Poehler, Evan and I

This is what they believe it originally looked like.

The British Museum

This is the entrance to the British Museum. It's pretty much a museum of all the artifacts the British "stole" from the other parts of the world while they were colonizing the globe.

The Rosetta Stone

These were put back together piece by piece. They stood on the top of the entrance of the Parthenon above the columns. They told us it was unlikely any Greeks ever saw they as they were too high up to see.

On the left and right of this room are the blocks of carvings that would have stood above the columns on the sides to support the room. They have somehow managed to match each block up as they would have been on the Parthenon.

Sites from Walking Around London

This is the Horse Guard Parade Grounds. They will be having the 2012 Olympic Sand Volleyball event here in the open.

Me and the horse guard. The sign on the right says the horse bites.

Although we all call it Big Ben, it's referred to as Clock Tower here.

The view from Millennium Bridge. We took this boat up the river to Greenwich.

The Tower of London.

Tower Bridge from the boat.

Buckingham Palace for the Changing of the Guard

The Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace.

The changing of the guard is done inside the gates. Obviously, we didn't make it there early enough to be able to see the good stuff. Good thing I'm here for the semester.

London 2012 Olympic Area

Countdown signs to the Olympics are all over London.

This Olympic observatory is located right next to the main stadium and was designed by a company in Chicago. It has zero 90 degree angles

The Prime Meridian

The Primer Meridian, where the longitude is defined as 0°,  passes through the Royal Observatory in southeast London. On the ground, cities form around the world latitudes are labeled.

Staying at the St. Giles Hotel

I've now been introduced to a European hotel's amenities. Notice the small canyon between my mattresses.
